  • MalfunctionMar 12, 2026Difficult to Advance

A LEAD EXTRACTION PROCEDURE COMMENCED TO REMOVE A RIGHT VENTRICULAR (RV), RIGHT ATRIAL (RA), AND LEFT VENTRICULAR (LV) LEAD DUE TO CIED SYSTEM/POCKET INFECTION. SPECTRANETICS LLD LEAD LOCKING DEVICES (LLDS) WERE INSERTED INTO EACH LEAD TO PROVIDE TRACTION. DURING PROPHYLACTIC STAGING OF A SPECTRANETICS BRIDGE PLUS OCCLUSION BALLOON DEVICE TO BE USED IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, RESISTANCE WAS ENCOUNTERED WHEN TRYING TO INSERT THE BALLOON OVER THE NON-PHILIPS GUIDEWIRE, THE BALLOON WOULD NOT ADVANCE. A SPECTRANETICS BRIDGE OCCLUSION BALLOON WAS ADVANCED SUCCESSFULLY, AND THE PROCEDURE WAS COMPLETED WITH NO REPORTED PATIENT HARM. THIS REPORT CAPTURES THE BRIDGE PLUS BALLOON THAT WOULD NOT ADVANCE OVER THE GUIDEWIRE; POTENTIAL FOR HARM IF IT WAS TO RECUR IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.
