InjurySep 30, 2026Adverse Event Without Identified Device or Use Problem
It was reported that the patient developed an infection, with signs of itching and an open wound, at the lead site of the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) system and underwent a revision procedure in which the lead extension was explanted and discarded. The patient is doing well post operatively; the infection has resolved and is undergoing medical treatment. The specific details of the revision procedure are unknown; however, it was stated that the therapy was turned off during the explant procedure, and the patient and family have requested additional assistance obtaining additional therapy.Detailed product information was not provided to BSC for the lead extension, despite having completed a good faith effort to obtain the information. Because the product is unknown at this time, we are unable to provide the complete Unique Identifier (UDI) # and other specific product information. If additional details become available, a supplemental report will be submitted.
