ACCORDING TO THE REPORTER, DURING AN OPEN ANTERIOR RECTAL RESECTION, RIGHT BEFORE SUTURING IN THE INTESTINE, THE SHARP PART OF THE NEEDLE BROKE AND PART OF THE NEEDLE FELL INTO THE PATIENT'S CAVITY. AN X-RAY WAS PERFORMED, BUT IT SHOWED THAT NOTHING WAS LEFT INSIDE THE PATIENT'S CAVITY. DUE TO WAITING FOR THE X-RAY, THE SURGICAL TIME WAS EXTENDED FOR 30 MINUTES OR MORE. ANOTHER SUTURE FROM THE SAME BOX WAS USED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
