We found 12 models of C-MAC by Karl Storz GmbH & Co. KG in the FDA's device registry (GUDID). Together they are named in 52 adverse event reports in the FDA's MAUDE database, received between Dec 17, 2018 and Sep 18, 2026 — classified as 5 injuries, 47 malfunctions.
The most frequently reported specific device problem is “No Display/Image” (15 reports).
Reports come from manufacturers, hospitals and patients and are not verified by the FDA. A report does not prove the device caused the event. Widely used products collect more reports, so totals can't be used to compare products or estimate failure rates. Only reports that name a model's exact device identifier are counted. ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION RECEIVED, A PATIENT WAS INTUBATED WITH THE C-MAC DEVICE AS PLANNED. THE DEVICE WAS USED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS EARLIER IN THE MORNING. THE DEVICE WAS THEN WASHED IN THE EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE, AFTER WHICH IT WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE ROOM TO BE CHARGED. THE DEVICE WAS SWITCHED ON AS NORMAL, AND THE POWER CORD WAS PLUGGED IN. THE IMAGE DISAPPEARED MOMENTARILY A FEW TIMES BUT RETURNED AS NORMAL. JUST BEFORE THE NEXT INTUBATION BEGAN, THE IMAGE ON THE VIDEO LARYNGOSCOPE BECAME VERY DARK, SO-CALLED NEGATIVE, I.E. THE COLORS WERE DARK AND PURPLE. THE DEVICE WAS UNUSABLE AT THAT TIME. IT WAS AN RSI INTUBATION. NO TIME TO CHANGE TO A NEW DEVICE. INTUBATED WITHOUT AN IMAGE LIKE A NORMAL LARYNGOSCOPE. AFTER THE SITUATION, THE DEVICE WAS RESTARTED, SO THE IMAGE WAS STILL UNUSABLE. NO DEATH OR (UNANTICIPATED) SERIOUS DETERIORATION IN STATE OF HEALTH REPORTED.
