IT WAS REPORTED THAT BALLOON RUPTURE OCCURRED. THE 80% STENOSED TARGET LESION WAS LOCATED IN THE MODERATELY TORTUOUS AND SEVERELY CALCIFIED INTERNAL ARTERIOVENOUS FISTULA. A 4.0 X40, 40CM GLADIATOR ELITE BALLOON CATHETER WAS ADVANCED FOR DILATION. DURING THE PROCEDURE, THE BALLOON RUPTURED UPON FIFTH TO SIXTH INFLATION AT 20 ATMOSPHERES FOR 50 TO 60 SECONDS. THE DEVICE WAS REMOVED, AND THE PROCEDURE WAS COMPLETED WITH ANOTHER OF THE SAME DEVICE. NO COMPLICATIONS WERE REPORTED, AND THE PATIENT WAS STABLE.

THE 75% STENOSED TARGET LESION WAS LOCATED IN THE NON-TORTUOUS AND MODERATELY CALCIFIED LEFT FOREARM. A 4.0 X40, 40CM GLADIATOR ELITE WAS ADVANCED FOR DILATION. DURING THE PROCEDURE, ON THE FIRST INFLATION AT 14 ATMOSPHERES AT 5 SECONDS BY PUMP, THE BALLOON RUPTURED. THE DEVICE WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED FOR ANOTHER OF THE SAME MODEL TO COMPLETE THE PROCEDURE. THERE WERE NO PATIENT COMPLICATIONS REPORTED, AND THE PATIENT CONDITION WAS STABLE. IT WAS FURTHER REPORTED THAT THE TARGET LESION WAS 60-70% STENOSED WITH A SIGNIFICANT BEND OF >90 DEGREES, MILDLY TORTUOUS, AND SEVERELY CALCIFIED. ADDITIONALLY, BALLOON RUPTURE OCCURRED INSTEAD OF THE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED SHAFT BREAK AS PINHOLE WAS NOTED ON THE BALLOON MATERIAL.
