We found 42 models of G7 Acetabular System by Biomet Orthopedics, LLC in the FDA's device registry (GUDID). Together they are named in 352 adverse event reports in the FDA's MAUDE database, received between Sep 10, 2019 and Sep 30, 2026 — classified as 1 death, 196 injuries, 155 malfunctions.
The most frequently reported specific device problem is “Difficult to Insert” (36 reports).
1 FDA recall record name at least one of these models by its device identifier, 1 still open.
Reports come from manufacturers, hospitals and patients and are not verified by the FDA. A report does not prove the device caused the event. Widely used products collect more reports, so totals can't be used to compare products or estimate failure rates. Only reports that name a model's exact device identifier are counted. MalfunctionSep 30, 2026Positioning Problem
It was reported that during the surgery the 56 mm cup could not be fully seated. The surgical team proceeded with an alternative approach and reamed to a different size. There was no known impact or consequences to the patient. Attempts have been made and no further information has been provided.

MAUDE report 50937181 ↗MalfunctionSep 24, 2026Loosening of Implant Not Related to Bone-Ingrowth
It was reported that during an initial hip replacement procedure, a size 51 acetabular cup was trialed for fit. Initial stability was confirmed, and the surgical team was instructed to use a size 52 acetabular prosthesis. Following implantation, the acetabular cup was also reported to be stable. After securing the cup, the ceramic liner was opened and inserted. The edges were leveled, and an impactor was used to seat the liner. However, the ceramic liner fractured during impaction.Following the ceramic liner fracture, it was discovered that the previously stable acetabular cup had become slightly loose. The surgeon immediately thoroughly irrigated the acetabulum with water and removed the entire prosthesis. After adjusting the cup angle, a new size 52 acetabular cup was implanted and secured with two screws. The replacement cup was reported to be very stable. The liner was then opened and implanted, and the procedure was completed successfully. No additional information available for the reported event.

MAUDE report 50327446 ↗InjuryJul 9, 2026Mechanical Jam
IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE PATIENT UNDERWENT AN INITIAL HIP PROCEDURE. DURING THE PROCEDURE, ZB CUP, LINER AND HEAD WAS IMPLANTED WITH DEPUY PRODUCT. THE PATIENT UNDERWENT A REVISION APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS POST-IMPLANTATION DUE TO RECURRENT DISLOCATIONS AND IMPINGING POSTERIOR AND INFERIOR ON THE CUP. THE CUP WAS REVISED TO BE MORE CLOSED WITH LESS ANTEVERSION IN AN EFFORT TO ACCOUNT FOR THE IMPINGEMENT AND A NEW FREEDOM CONSTRUCT IMPLANTED. ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE AND NO FURTHER INFORMATION HAS BEEN PROVIDED.
Patient problems: Joint Dislocation; Joint Impingement
MAUDE report 25763303 ↗MalfunctionJun 25, 2026Device Dislodged or Dislocated; Premature Separation
IT WAS REPORTED THAT DURING AN INITIAL TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY, THE ELEVATED INLAY WAS NOT ABLE TO ACHIEVE APPROPRIATE STABILITY. DURING THE REDUCTION PROCESS, THE INLAY DISASSOCIATED COMPLETELY FROM THE IMPLANTED CUP. AN ALTERNATIVE NEUTRAL INLAY WAS USED TO COMPLETE THE PROCEDURE WITHOUT FURTHER COMPLICATION.
