We found 55 models of SUPERA by Abbott Vascular Inc. in the FDA's device registry (GUDID). Together they are named in 752 adverse event reports in the FDA's MAUDE database, received between Aug 2, 2016 and Sep 30, 2026 — classified as 342 injuries, 410 malfunctions.
The most frequently reported specific device problem is “Activation Failure” (246 reports).
Reports come from manufacturers, hospitals and patients and are not verified by the FDA. A report does not prove the device caused the event. Widely used products collect more reports, so totals can't be used to compare products or estimate failure rates. Only reports that name a model's exact device identifier are counted. MAUDE report 50947469 ↗MalfunctionSep 29, 2026Activation Failure
It was reported that the procedure was to treat a de novo lesion in the lower limb with 70% stenosis, mild calcification and mild tortuosity. The 6.0x150mm Supera self-expanding stent system (SESS) was advanced, but then during stent deployment, the stent was only able to be partially deployed. The stent could not be fully released. Therefore, the delivery system and stent were removed under fluoroscopy without issues. Another same size Supera was used to complete the procedure. There was no adverse patient effect and no clinically significant delay in the procedure. No additional information was provided.

It was reported this was a procedure to treat a heavily calcified, heavily tortuous, and 98% stenosed superficial femoral artery. A Supera 5.0x120 was inserted and placed at the target lesion. However, after the stent was released and the delivery system was withdrawn from the body, the distal tip was found detached and trapped on the guide wire. It was noted the thumb slide was not fully retracted, and the system lock and deployment lock were not rotated into the locked position. A snare was inserted to retrieve the detached fragment. No additional information provided.
