Quick summary
This Boston Scientific Hydratome RX44 sphincterotome is a disposable electrosurgical cutting wire used to open the sphincter during ERCP and similar endoscopic procedures. The 39 reports mostly describe the cutting wire snapping or breaking when the device is bowed or tensioned for cutting, and in a few cases difficulty deploying it or a plastic piece separating and having to be retrieved. Three reports involve injuries and no deaths are described. One open recall, started in December 2021, cites compromised sterility from a breach in the sterile packaging barrier.
