We found 10 models of TRUMATCH by Depuy (Ireland) in the FDA's device registry (GUDID). Together they are named in 68 adverse event reports in the FDA's MAUDE database, received between Jul 30, 2018 and Apr 17, 2026 — classified as 68 malfunctions.
The most frequently reported specific device problem is “Incorrect Measurement” (25 reports).
6 FDA recall records name at least one of these models by its device identifier.
Reports come from manufacturers, hospitals and patients and are not verified by the FDA. A report does not prove the device caused the event. Widely used products collect more reports, so totals can't be used to compare products or estimate failure rates. Only reports that name a model's exact device identifier are counted. MalfunctionApr 17, 2026Device-Device Incompatibility; No Apparent Adverse Event
IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE SCRUB TECHS WERE HAVING ISSUES ATTACHING THE 2-PRONGED ATTACHMENT PIECE TO THE TIBIAL PIN BLOCKS BECAUSE THE HOLES SEEM TO BE MANUFACTURED SMALLER THAN PREVIOUSLY. IT HAS ALSO CREATED ISSUES FOR THE SURGEONS NOT BEING ABLE TO VISUALIZE THEIR ALIGNMENT AND SLOPE BECAUSE THE METAL PIECE WON¿T SIT FLUSH. A COUPLE OF BLOCKS HAVE BROKEN AT THAT JUNCTURE, AS THE SCRUB TECHS USE METAL INSTRUMENTS ATTEMPTING TO TAP IT IN FLUSH.

IT WAS REPORTED THAT TRUMATCH CT FEM CUT TIB PIN R AND HP EM TIBIAL JIG UPROD WERE INVOLVED IN A REPORTED EVENT. DURING A PROCEDURE, THE HP DOWNROD DID NOT FULLY ENGAGE WITH THE TRUMATCH TIBIA PIN GUIDE, ONLY INSERTING ABOUT HALFWAY. DESPITE THIS, ALIGNMENT WAS ACHIEVED TO SATISFACTION, AND THERE WERE NO SURGICAL DELAYS OR ISSUES. THERE WAS NO PATIENT HARM OR SIGNIFICANT DELAY ASSOCIATED WITH THE EVENT.

MAUDE report 24402735 ↗MalfunctionOct 23, 2025Patient-Device Incompatibility; Patient-Device Incompatibility
IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE MEDIAL SIDE FROM MEMORY STATED 3MM ISH CUT AND 9 FROM HIGH. BECAUSE OF TIBIAL WEAR MEDIAL/POSTERIOR IT WAS A 12MM CUT TO AVOID AIR SWING. WE FOUND THIS OUT INTRAOPERATIVELY BUT DID SAY WHEN HE LOOKED AT PLAN IT WAS NOT ACCURATE AND QUESTIONED WHERE YOU TOOK LANDMARKS PARTICULARLY ON THE MEDIAL SIDE OF TIBIA.
Patient problems: No Clinical Signs, Symptoms or Conditions
MAUDE report 23366235 ↗MalfunctionAug 5, 2025Patient-Device Incompatibility; Patient-Device Incompatibility
THE TIBIAL RESECTION WAS VERY CONSERVATIVE DESPITE THE PLAN RECOMMENDING A 10MM POLY. ALSO, IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT INTERNAL ROTATION RATHER THAN THE 3D EXTERNAL PLANNED. SURGICAL TEAM HAD TO RESORT TO STANDARD INSTRUMENTS.

IT WAS REPORTED THAT PATIENT UNDERWENT TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT ON (B)(6) 2025. CARTILAGE MODEL PREDICTED 2MM OF CARTILAGE ON THE MEDIAL PLATEAU OF THE PROXIMAL TIBIA. SALES REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THE MEDIAL FOOT OF THE PIN GUIDE WAS AIR BALLING AND THE PATIENT HAD NO CARTILAGE REMAINING ON MEDIAL SIDE. THEY ENDED UP RE-CUTTING THE TIBIA BY AN ADDITIONAL 4MM AND THE FEMUR BY 2MM. RELEASED PCL TO OPEN FLEXION GAP AND USED 5MM TIBIA POLY. PROCEDURE WAS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.

IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE CARTILAGE MODEL PREDICTED 2MM OF CARTILAGE ON THE MEDIAL PLATEAU OF THE PROXIMAL TIBIA. THE SALES REP STATED THAT THE MEDIAL FOOT OF THE PIN GUIDE WAS AIRBALLING AND THE PATIENT HAD NO CARTILAGE REMAINING ON MEDIAL SIDE. THEY DISCOVERED A GOOD HOME FOR THE GUIDE DESPITE MEDIAL FOOT NOT CONTACTING. THE DOWN ROD WAS RUNNING INTO THE LEG WHEN CHECKING ALIGNMENT. AFTER PINNING, THE CUTTING BLOCK WAS PLACED AND DOWN ROD WAS CHECKED AGAIN, THE SLOPE AND ALIGNMENT APPEARED CORRECT. THEY MADE THE CUT AND SLOPE APPEARED CORRECT BUT WAS STILL TIGHT IN FLEXION, THEREFOR THE RECUT AND RELEASED PCL TO OPEN FLEXION GAP. IT WAS STATED THAT THE FEET OF THE GUIDE ARE SUPPOSED TO CONTACT THE PLATEAUS OF THE PROXIMAL TIBIA. THE PROCEDURE WAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED AND ALL AVAILABLE INFORMATION HAS BEEN DISCLOSED FOR REPORTING. NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED.

MAUDE report 21503669 ↗MalfunctionSep 24, 2024Patient-Device Incompatibility; Patient-Device Incompatibility
THE CASE STARTED AS USUAL, WITH A STANDARD APPROACH TO REMOVING SOFT TISSUES, FAT PAD ETC. SURGEON HAS DONE SEVERAL TRUMATCH CASES OVER THE YEARS AND UNDERSTANDS NOT TO REMOVE ANY OSTEOPHYTES BEFORE PLACING THE BLOCKS. BOTH FEMORAL AND TIBIAL GUIDES WERE OPENED AFTER CHECKING THAT THE PATIENT MATCHED THE TRUMATCH REFERENCE FOR THE CASE. THE FEMORAL BLOCK WAS OFFERED UP TO THE FEMUR FIRST AND IT BECAME CLEAR VERY QUICKLY THAT SOMETHING WAS INCORRECT ON THE ANTERIOR SURFACE. WE CHECKED THE PROPOSAL AND THEN CHECKED THE BLOCKS AND THE PROPOSAL DID NOT OFFER A PATHWAY TO SECURE THE BLOCKS. THE SURGEON TRIED TO MANIPULATE THE BLOCK TO FIT BUT IT BECAME CLEAR THAT HE WOULD NEED TO CUT OSTEOPHYTES FROM THE ANTERIOR MEDIAL COMPARTMENT OF THE KNEE. THIS WAS DONE WITH MINIMAL AMOUNTS BEING TAKEN THEN THE BLOCK WAS OFFERED UP FOR FITMENT, IT WOULDN'T FIT, SO MORE BONE WAS TAKEN ON ANOTHER 3 OCCASIONS, TO THE POINT WHERE THE SURGEON WAS UNABLE TO MAKE ANY ADDITIONAL CUTS AS HE HAD REACHED THE PATIENT'S TRUE ANATOMY. THE BLOCK AT THIS POINT WAS STILL SITTING PROUD OF THE POSTERIOR CONDYLES, THE DISTAL SURFACE AND THE ANTERIOR BY AROUND 12MM, SO NOT IDEAL FOR THE PIN POSITIONS. SURGEON THEN DECI
