We found 57 models of PINNACLE GRIPTION by Depuy Orthopaedics, Inc. in the FDA's device registry (GUDID). Together they are named in 1,608 adverse event reports in the FDA's MAUDE database, received between Feb 15, 2013 and Sep 28, 2026 — classified as 3 deaths, 1,484 injuries, 121 malfunctions.
The most frequently reported specific device problem is “Osseointegration Problem” (191 reports).
Reports come from manufacturers, hospitals and patients and are not verified by the FDA. A report does not prove the device caused the event. Widely used products collect more reports, so totals can't be used to compare products or estimate failure rates. Only reports that name a model's exact device identifier are counted. Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth first report of retrievals for Statement of Work 10 for Q2 of 2026. Darthmouth is the research location, and not the facility of placement.A DePuy Synthes Implant was revised and reviewed for analysisReason for revision: Revision due to malpositioned cup and pain. At revision non-articular surface of the polyethylene acetabular liner shows 1 screw hole defect.

MAUDE report 50180389 ↗InjuryJul 30, 2026Device Dislodged or Dislocated
It was reported that the patient underwent total left hip arthroplasty on (b)(6) 2022. Patient subsequently experienced hip pain after feeling a "pop". An X-ray revealed decentralization of the modular head relative to the acetabular components (cup/liner). Patient underwent hip revision surgery on (b)(6) 2026, during which the surgeon opted to use Competitor's acetabular implants and a modular head.
Patient problems: Pain
MAUDE report 50084270 ↗InjuryJul 30, 2026Device Dislodged or Dislocated; Noise, Audible
It was reported that patient had a revision hip procedure through a direct lateral approach. The original hip replacement procedure with Pinnacle Trilock implants was completed 7 years previously. The patient had presented in AE with a two day history of pain, and reported hearing a ¿clunk¿ sound. The revision procedure involved the extraction of a Pinnacle Sector Cup 52mm, a Poly 52/32mm, and a 32mm ceramic head.
Patient problems: Pain
MAUDE report 50083533 ↗InjuryJul 28, 2026Device Dislodged or Dislocated
It was reported that the patient underwent hip arthroplasty surgery in 2022. Components implanted were Corail femoral stem, 32mm +1 Articuleze metal head, 32/50 +4 10 degree Pinnacle Marathon acetabular liner, and 50mm Pinnacle Sector Gription shell. Surgery was completed successfully at the time. In (b)(6) 2026, patient notified the surgeon that they ¿had felt a pop in their hip region and hip felt odd¿. X-rays showed that revision surgery was necessary. During the hip revision surgery, the surgeon discovered that the acetabular liner was partially dissociated. The liner was partially dissociated in the posterior aspect. The surgeon then removed the partially dissociated liner and the previous femoral head. The liner was replaced with an ALtrex polyethylene one of identical dimensions. Surgeon also replaced the femoral head with a Biolox Delta Ceramic head of identical dimensions. The hip was then reduced and surgery finished successfully according to plan. No additional information is available.
